Last week we welcomed Spring and it feels a bit ironic writing this post today as I look out my window to see a thin layer of snow covering everything again.
I did however create this adorable Spring print last week to celebrate and I thought I would walk you through how I created it.
Starting with a sketch:
Using Procreate, I knew I wanted to do some lettering and some florals for spring but wasn’t sure what I wanted it to say, and after a few phrases - I kept it simple with just “Spring”and using a lettering grid - I got mine from a shop on Etsy called ArtistLines - you can use the grid to help you lay out your letters.
Refining the Sketch:
Once I had the general layout I went in and added the actual flowers, greenery and decided how I wanted my lettering to look.
I used my own Procreate brushes for the flowers - the colour pencil brush in my BPF Essentials pack.
For the lettering I used the Smooth Ink Procreate Lettering brush from AJ Brushes.
Adding Colour and Details:
Lastly was adding the colour and details - which I achieved by using an inspo colour pallete and adding a colour filter to make it seem a bit more vintage.
Each flower was coloured using my colour pencil brush in my BPF Essentials pack.
To finish it off I added a paper texture and set it to multiple on top to finish that vintage hand-drawn look. I got my paper texture from Tomasz Mro on Creative Market.
Watch the timelapse video:
Rather watch the process instead of reading about it? Totally understand! Enjoy the timelapse above to watch the whole process unfold in 30 seconds.
Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed me breaking down my process for my latest illustration!
